July 29, 2010 at 5:16 pm by Matthew Miles

Nine-time world dragracing champion (and former Cycle World cover model; May, 2005) Rickey Gadson is gearing up to break the world land-speed record for a naturally aspirated motorcycle.

The attempt will take place on Saturday, August 31, at Loring AFB in Limestone, Maine. The current MPS/F-1650/4 (modified production stock, fuel, 1650cc, four cylinder) record of 225.87 mph is held by Mark DeLuca. Gadson will also go after the MPS/G-1650/F record of 221.82 mph. Chad Millholland holds the latter record.

Gadson will ride a 1570cc Kawasaki ZX-14 built by Jim Gilmack at Competition CNC.

    6. If Ricky breaks Chad’s record, knowing him he will just return the favor.

    7. Went 217mph and threw a rod. It should have gone faster in 1.5 miles. 1507 cc busas are running 220 in 1 mile.

    8. hey, Ricky did a great job the last couple days here at Loring. some really great runs 217 – 218. but today was just part of racing, with engine trouble at the end of the day the Kawi was unable to do anymore runs. Got to meet ricky and he’s a guy that just wants to go fast, very nice and a good sport for sure. I hope to see him next year and see some other big name racers try to compete for some of the records set at this event.

    10. If the weather is perfect and everything goes off without a hitch then he should hit the mark.
